Salt City Brass, originally known as Jasiu Klocek and His Polka Band, is a well-rounded group which has performed in establishments along the east coast since 1966. Although polkas, obereks and waltzes are the specialty, the band plays a variety of music for any occasion. The musicians' knowledge and experience are evident in the high quality of each performance. Salt City Brass has appeared throughout New York State for weddings, parties, conventions, dances, oktoberfests and outdoor concerts. It was the house band performing weekly at The Fireside Inn in Baldwinsville, NY for 4 years and later at Vernon Downs Casino, Vernon, NY for another 2 years. They also played bimonthly at The Mayfair Inn, Marcy NY. In 1980, the group made its first recording, Polkas With Class by the Salt City Brass, which enabled the band to broaden its playing field to include New York, Minnesota, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Florida. Jasiu Klocek, the leader, plays accordion and keyboards, sings and writes and arranges the songs. He has played on Caribbean cruises with John Stevens' Doubleshot and Joe Stanky and the Cadets. Jasiu has also had the opportunity to play and record with other groups including Florida Honky Band, Little Wally, Orlando Polka Magic, Northern Sounds and The Enzian Bavarian Band. Recently The United Polka League of the Mohawk Valley celebrated his 40 years in music by presenting Jasiu with a commemorative plaque. |
